Hello again,
I am also missing a plain text feature. Not everybody needs HTML, or do they?... I don't. Hopefully you can add that.
With kind regards,
Adam Smith
I think plain text is the best solution for emails which we exchange. We can't assume that everyone will use web based email or gmx.com so we have to be aware that someone will use OE or Outlook or Thunderbird or some other program which not necessarily can render html code correctly. So text based email is most user friendly. That is feature which should be available ASAP.
I second this.
1) I've experienced HTML mail sent through GMX which crashes the recipient's Opera 10 when they attempt to preview/open it.
2) Colleagues who receive their mail through editors (emacs etc) hate getting HTML mail through GMX.
3) There are some bugs in how GMX handles reply-to and forward-to messages containing HTML, though they may be confined to IE7.
I think plain text for composing and reading emails would be a good idea. Just ensures people can always read your emails, no matter what client/web application they are using.
I would agree with it. For the people like me who mostly check the mails via the phone because not call the phone support rendering different phones most of the hand sets only support basic fonts.
I also miss this feature. Maybe there could even be a routine, which checks for special formatting and only send HTML if there is some. Otherwise the mail could always be sent as plain text.
Thunderbird does it this way and I really like it, because the average user would not understand the difference between HTML and plain text and always use the default setting, which is obviously rich text editing. But Thunderbird automatically chooses the appropriate method. GMX should do this too.
I think this option needs to be made available immediately. It would save time, as well as space, since more data needs to be used to code HTML letters. Not only is plain text more efficient, it is more compatible with other systems. Please, I would really like to see this option implemented into GMX.
I beg you GMX, this feature is truly crucial! Many people in the world hate for various reasons or worse - can't view HTML mails at all (mobile browser, text based mail clients etc)!
You need to make this feature available, I composed my mails from Opera Mail but when I wasn't on my home computer and Opera wasn't available I tried composing and didn't find the 'convert to plain text' feature only by googling to discover that this important feature doesn't exist.
I really believe that you'll hear what the community wants, like you did with the Opera support you'll do this too.
Thanks for reading :)
I agree too. There are still people running Eudora 3, including some of my friends. HTML looks crazy to them. Please give us the option of sending in plain text! :-)
Yes, this is very much required. I have no idea when I compose an email what the other person will see. Worst, when I am sending a job application. I will have to rush to my laptop to start writing the email from my email client to do this instead of doing it from webmail.
plain text would be fantastic.
Currently cannot see received emails sent from the gmx web interface on my Sony Ericsson C510 :(
It's also really useful when posting source code bits. Please allow sending plain text mails !
For me, this would solve my 'mobile' access problem, as I can use LogicMail (or another java applet) on my phone. Most mail apps send text + HTML, and so mobile clients can extract just the text portion, and everything works. But GMX accounts send *only* the HTML portion, so while I can read messages from GMail and Hotmail (and most other) accounts to my GMX account when I'm mobile, the only emails I can never read are emails originating from GMX when I'm using a mobile client!
Right now, it's a joke, because if I'm mobile, everyone knows they have to send me messages just on the subject line. Everyone wonders why I still use GMX. Aside from that, GMX is excellent. I really think GMX should be a 'well-behaved' app like everyone else and send 'Text + HTML' messages.
The developers should adhere to plain text standards (rfc 3676 (http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3676.txt))
Correct url: rfc 3676 http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3676.txt
The interesting thing is, that plain text feature is available within GMX: on gmx.net, but only in german. Also a lot of other useful config features are available there.
Why does GMX offer two so different webmail services? It looks more like 'diverted internet' than like 'United Internet'!
What gmx.com or gmx.co.uk sends out is only html. This is even worst than the html/text mix most html-mail users are sending out. I got very bad replies from recipients of my first mails from gmx.com.
One year later...... (the same problem but let's hope GMX will find a solution)

Hello Yves,
Have you checked into Brainstorm to see the status of the "plain text" idea? It's possible that this idea is already in development, and if so, it should be available soon on GMX.COM.
Kind regards,
Ian / GMX

Hi! One more complain: why is it not possible to get a webmailer that doen't distort the outgoing message text? GMX.NET and GMX.DE work correctly, but these sites have a lot of advertising...... and are not confortable. Here you are reasonnable and don't knock out the users with stupid spots. But please put up a really working webmailer. We are so many getting problems because of distorted texts.
Shouldn'be so difficult to fix for brains used to that sort of work
Thank you for your attention
Yves
Is there any way to know where this is going to be implemented. I see now it's under development, good!!!
Ups! I meant to say "WHEN" and not "WHERE".
PLEASE! Don't close this ticket. An option to always send mails in plain text by default is missing in the settings composing options.
