The Argentine icon's future at the La Liga club is in doubt as his contract expires at the end of the season and he previously demanded to leave Barca last year but Laporta is determined to keep him should he win the election next month and believes that the club must prove they can fight for trophies again to convince him to remain at the Nou Camp.
Laporta told Sky Italia: "I will do everything possible for Messi to stay.
"Messi should be valued with the affection he deserved and with a suitable financial package, but it's not about money. He needs a winning sporting proposal, Leo wants to win again with Barcelona."
"I know him well, I have a good personal relationship with him. He is not someone that is here for the money. He will need a competitive sporting offer because he's a winner."
Messi's team-mate Jordi Alba believes that the Barcelona legend is fully committed to the club despite rumours linking him with a move away.
The full-back said: "If I were clear about his future, I wouldn't say it either. He is one hundred per cent committed to Barcelona. Hopefully, we win a title. He will decide at the end of the season.
"What other clubs or players say, we do not pay attention to them. There are many opinions, there is much talk, but the last word is his. The decision will be well thought out and considered.
"It will be the one that he believes is best. With Leo we are much better and stronger. I hope he will stay for many years, but it is his decision and we will have to respect it."
