Ben Askren 'deserves' ridicule after Jake Paul loss

Ben Askren says he deserves to be ridiculed after being knocked out by Jake Paul.

The former MMA fighter's boxing debut was over inside one round as he was beaten by the YouTube star and Askren feels a deep sense of embarrassment after the loss.

Asked post-fight about people mocking his defeat, he said: "It’s probably deserved. I got knocked out by Jake Paul. It’s f****** embarrassing."

Askren adds that he had "let the world down" with his performance as he felt many were desperate to see Paul's unbeaten boxing record come to an end.

He said: "I didn’t let the MMA community down – I let the world down. People f****** hate Jake Paul, and they wanted to see me make him miserable. And I didn’t do that, so I didn’t let the MMA community down – I let the world down."

Despite his comprehensive defeat, Askren still doesn't rate Paul as a fighter as he was unable to truly test his opponent.

He said: "No, I don’t, because I wanna see him get in a fight.

"And I’m sorry I let you down. I didn’t get to get in a fight with him. He hit me early. You know, as I said, that’s when you respect someone, is when you see what they’re made of. And, you know, I was hoping that you guys would get to see that tonight. And I let a lot of people down, because they didn’t get to see that."
