Eddie Hearn expecting Joshua v Usyk rematch next April

Eddie Hearn is hopeful that the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua will take place by April.

The promoter wants the second fight to take place in Britain early next year after Usyk comfortably defeated the Brit on points in September.

Hearn told talkSPORT: "I think [the rematch] will be realistically end of March, early April. Both guys are probably resting, although AJ will be doing a bit more preparation because he wants to get it right.

"I would like it back in the UK. There are other options. We have had approaches to stage that fight around the world. But last time out was a massive spectacle and, obviously, this time is a much bigger fight."

Hearn also revealed that he expects Joshua to return to the United States to meet with trainers as he continues to soul search following his loss in the original bout.

He said: "There was a well-documented trip to America, just to look really, look, learn and see. I think he will go back out there towards the end of the year. We will start talking to Team Usyk over the next couple of weeks and pin down the venue."

Usyk's promoter Alexander Krassyuk is keen to see the rematch take place in the fighter's native Ukraine but isn't ruling out the possibility of the clash taking place in the Middle East or Britain.

He told Sky Sports: "We have three options: the United Kingdom, Ukraine and the Middle East. We plan to meet with Eddie Hearn within the next couple of weeks to initiate the rematch activities."
