Luke Shaw plays down Man Utd title talk

Luke Shaw claims that nobody at Manchester United is thinking about winning the league.

The Red Devils earned a dramatic 2-1 derby victory against Manchester City at the weekend to move a point behind their neighbours in the league table but Shaw claims that talk of the Premier League title is premature.

The United defender said: "It’s too early to think about that. Right now as a team we have to make sure we have the right consistency in performances and results.

"It’s always about winning. If you play well or not you need to be winning, and recently we’ve been doing that. We’ve not been playing our best but we’ve still been winning games.

"We’re still in four competitions. We’re Manchester United, we have to aim high, and of course we want to win all four but whether that happens or not is down to us, it’s down to the way we act, the way we rest and get ready for the next game.

"Now we have to forget about this game, forget about this win. We have a massive game on Wednesday against Crystal Palace."

Manager Erik ten Hag was pleased to see his team's mental strength on show as his team produced a turnaround to claim an important three points.

He said: "We often talk about teams, developing, tactics progressing but one of the main jobs for a manager and a coaching staff is to work on the mentality of the team and this mentality has a lot of elements.

"One of them is resilience. The determination of this team is progressing a lot in dealing with setbacks, dealing with suffering in painful moments and keeping going after setbacks like a goal against us.

"I think we have also players on the pitch experienced and know that one moment games can change and I think we are much better to deal with such situations than a couple of months ago."
