Erik ten Hag calls for Man Utd to be more ruthless

Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United to become more ruthless.

The Red Devils missed the chance to go second in the Premier League table after an excellent late free-kick by Michael Olise meant they were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace on Wednesday (18.01.23).

Ten Hag was frustrated that his team were unable to score a second goal that would have secured the three points.

The United boss said: "It was disappointing and we conceded a goal at the key moment.

"We had to go for the second goal. At 2-0 it would be over. We thought we were in control of the game but in football one moment can change everything and that’s something we have to learn from.

"I have to criticise my team. Go for the second. Bruno and Rashy (Marcus Rashford) on the wings, Alejandro Garnacho, a lot of creativity, speed and power, and Scott McTominay with penetration behind."

United were dealt another blow as a yellow card for Casemiro means he will be suspended for the crucial game against Arsenal at the weekend.

Ten Hag feels that the team will miss the midfielder's quality but pointed out that United beat the Gunners earlier in the season without him.

The Dutch coach said: "He’s a really important player for us and he is one of the reasons we are in the position we are in now.

"But we have a squad and we have to fill that gap by making a proper plan. We have already shown how to beat Arsenal."
