Beauden Barrett 'pretty proud' of career stats

Beauden Barrett is “pretty proud” of his New Zealand record.

The 34-year-old sportsman recently highlighted the fact he became the second man, after Carlos Spencer, to score 100 tries, 100 conversions and 100 penalty goals in New Zealand rugby in April, and although he wasn’t aware of the milestone until other people talked abut it, he’s impressed with the statistic.

He told Rugby World magazine: “It’s not something I knew too much about until people highlighted it or made note. But I was pretty proud of that.”

However, Beauden insisted he hasn’t been deliberately chasing the target.

He said: “On the 100 tries, look, it’s one of the byproducts of playing rugby with an attacking mindset.

“I always try to take the field with a positive mentality and look to express my skills.

“When I play well, that’s what you see.”

Beauden also admitted his lifestyle has helped.

He said: “I’ve been very lucky with injuries and also being versatile and can cover a couple of positions.

“Longevity is another factor, looking after my body.

“I was taught that, and practising good habits.

“It doesn’t get any easier at my age and being a father and having responsibilities.

“It does sap your energy having two beautiful young girls.”
