Jordan Holsgrove ‘ready to make himself available for Scotland’

Jordan Holsgrove is reportedly ready to make himself available for Scotland.

The Portugal-based midfielder, 26, is open to a call-up from Steve Clarke ahead of next month’s friendlies, according to a report in The Sun.

Holsgrove currently plays for Estoril Praia in the Primeira Liga, where he has emerged as one of the division’s most productive deep-lying playmakers.

He has five caps at Under-21 level for Scotland but had previously kept his international options open, being eligible to represent England as well.

Now, The Sun says he would be keen to join Clarke’s squad for fixtures against Japan and Curaçao as preparations continue for this summer’s World Cup.

Scotland secured qualification for the tournament with a 4–2 win over Denmark in November – their first appearance at the competition in 28 years – and have been drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti and Brazil.

Holsgrove, who was born in Edinburgh and is the son of former Reading midfielder Paul Holsgrove, began his career with Reading FC before moving abroad.

Over recent seasons he has played across Europe, representing RC Celta de Vigoin Spain, FC Paços de Ferreira in Portugal and Olympiacos FC in Greece.

He joined Estoril in 2024 and has become an ever-present figure in midfield.

This season he ranks third in the Primeira Liga for chances created, with 41, despite Estoril sitting mid-table.

In 21 league appearances he has scored once and registered five assists.

His pass completion rate of 85.8 percent every 90 minutes is the ninth best in the division, underlining his reputation as a composed distributor in the centre of the pitch.

Clarke now has an expanded pool of midfield options as he shapes his squad for the World Cup campaign.

Scotland’s 4–2 victory over Denmark in November – which featured three goals described as remarkable – sealed qualification and ended a near three-decade wait to return to football’s most prestigious international tournament.

Holsgrove’s availability adds further depth to Scotland’s midfield resources as they prepare to face Morocco, Haiti and Brazil in Group C this summer.
