City to wait for Alexis Sanchez swoop

Manchester City are ready to wait to sign Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer next summer, rather than pay a fee in January.

And that would leave Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to face some serious questions, having accepted a £60million offer from the Citizens back in September, only to then pull the plug on transfer deadline day.

Etihad insiders have claimed a deal for the 28-year-old is unlikely at this stage and Pep Guardiola is now looking to splash the cash to bolster his defensive ranks, with a left-back and a central defender in the frame.

City still want Sanchez and know the player has his heart set on linking up again with Guardiola, who were together at Barcelona, rebuffing big-money offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

It's not known what Sanchez makes of the new situation, although it would mean the South American can have the last laugh on the North Londoners as he will pick up a £10m signing-on fee for running down the final six months of his deal at the Emirates.
