Jonny Evans set for captaincy role

Jonny Evans set for captaincy role

Jonny Evans is reportedly set to be restored as West Brom captain for Saturday's relegation six-pointer at home against Huddersfield.

Baggies boss Alan Pardew said he 'made a statement' last Saturday when he stripped the armband from the 30-year-old central defender after it emerged he was one of four players to break a club curfew during the team's recent training camp in Barcelona.

Veteran fellow Northern Ireland international defender Gareth McAuley took over for Albion's 2-1 FA Cup fifth-round defeat against Southampton.

Evans and Gareth Barry both played in the game while Boaz Myhill was on the bench, with Jake Livermore out injured.

But looking ahead to the visit of Huddersfield to the Hawthorns this weekend, it has been reported that Evans has been reinstated as captain by Pardew.

Albion are looking for the win to cut the seven-point gap between themselves and the Terriers in the final position of safety.
