Foden revels in derby success

Northampton winger Ben Foden feels his side have shown they can mix it with the best teams following their 27-21 win over Leicester.

The Saints have endured a miserable season so far which has already seen director of rugby Jim Mallinder lose his position at Franklin's Gardens.

However Northampton sprung a real surprise on Saturday at Welford Road as they managed to secure bragging rights against their old east midlands rivals on their own patch.

Foden was delighted with the victory and feels the performance shows that Northampton should not fear any side in the Aviva Premiership and should build on the result going forward.

He told BBC 5 live: "There were times that we thought it might slip from our reach but we managed to score the tries when it mattered.

"The theme of our season is that we have been a 40-minute team or a 20-minute team and we have shown that we can beat the best sides. We needed an 80-minute performance and we did that."
