City star set to return to the first team after long term injury

Benjamin Mendy could make his long-awaited first-team comeback this coming Sunday at home to Swansea City.

The Manchester City and France left-back suffered no reaction after completing 45-minutes for the reserves against Manchester United on Friday, his first competitive action since he damaged cruciate knee ligaments playing against Crystal Palace last September.

Mendy was assessed by City's medical staff over the weekend and they were happy enough the powerful Frenchman had come through the 1-1 draw without issue.

The likeable 23-year-old will be closely monitored by boss Pep Guardiola during training this week, with the City boss thought to be considering naming the defender among his substitutes for the visit of the relegation-threatened Swans.

The Citizens have wrapped up the Premier League title and Mendy has been working hard to be involved in the party, with one eye still on making France's World Cup squad this summer.

Mendy's early performances for City certainly whetted the appetite of supporters following his £50m arrival from Monaco last summer and Guardiola now wants to help him lay down a early marker for next season by involving him in the remaining five games of the campaign.
