Brookes swaps Saints for Wasps

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young believes new signing Kieran Brookes can help add extra depth to his side.

The 27-year-old prop, who has 16 England caps and was part of the squad at the 2015 World Cup, has opted to leave Northampton Saints at the end of his contract, having spent three years at Franklin's Gardens.

Wasps moved quickly to sign him up and have acquired a versatile forward who can play on either side of the scrum.

The club have already confirmed deals for Brad Shiels, Nizaam Carr and Lima Sopanga and Brookes' arrival will only add to the number of international class stars at the Ricoh Arena.

Young, himself a prop during his playing days, says he is excited to work with the former Newcastle and Leicester man and has backed him to make a significant impact in Coventry.

"Kieran is a proven operator," said Young. "He is a good addition to our squad, and adds to a pool of props which mixes experience with some fast-developing younger players.

"As we all know, having a solid set-piece is a crucial component in a successful team. Kieran's arrival will further boost us in this area, and he also offers plenty around the park both with ball in hand and defensively."
