TCL stopping BlackBerry sales

TCL Communications plans to stop BlackBerry sales this summer.

The company - which has been largely keeping the phones alive around the world - has confirmed it will "no longer be selling" the devices from August 31.

In a statement, the tech firm said: "TLC Communication has no further rights to design, manufacture or sell any new BlackBerry mobile devices, however TLC Communication will continue to provide support for the existing portfolio of mobile devices including customer service and warranty service until August 31, 2022 - or for as long as required by local laws where the mobile devices was purchased."

BlackBerry stopped making its own phones in 2016, and instead licensed out its brand to companies included BB Merah Putih in Indonesia, and Optiemus Infracom in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.

However, TCL had the rights in all other regions.

They added: "We are grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many fans from all over the world during our world tour stops.

"The future is bright for both TCL Communication and BlackBerry Limited, and we hope you'll continue to support both as we move ahead on our respective paths."
