A study conducted by Open Mind Strategy on behalf of Discovery Digital Studios has found that over half (53 per cent) of those surveyed are shunning a long summer holiday and instead prefer to take short weekend breaks. And a similar 55 per cent of people admit they prefer shorter holidays to longer ones.
Elsewhere, 81 per cent of people are keen to take a road trip, whilst families with children see this rise to 87 per cent. And when it comes to choosing where to go on their holiday, 63 per cent prefer the beach over the mountains whilst 55 per cent would rather go to the countryside than visit a city. This could be because cities tend to be more expensive for families, at least that is what 51 per cent of those surveyed think.
And 89 per cent of people confessed they would rather stay in a hotel, whilst 77 per cent wanted to stay in a rental house. 80 per cent of those who preferred the house were families with children. 57 per cent of people like to cook on holiday too.
