It has been revealed that the Scottish city is the idea place to head to for a day out getting in the festive spirit, thanks to cobbled streets, the "striking architecture that goes perfectly with the season" as well as wide range of shops and of course, a "sprawling" Christmas market.
Glasgow came in second place and was praised for its "festive cheer, manageable crowds and traffic, and a stellar Christmas market", whilst Oxford came in third with its "highly rated Christmas market, fewer crowds, great parking and an abundance of shops to find those all-important gifts".
Newcastle and Belfast rounded off the top five with their Christmas markets.
A Premier Inn spokesperson said: "Christmas is the ideal time to support the UK's high streets and enjoy the shopping and entertainment that goes with it. However, it can be a daunting task trying to compete with large festive crowds. By creating this expert algorithm, we hope we can help consumers to avoid key shopping stressors, and instead have an enjoyable experience. It came as no surprise to us that Edinburgh topped the list, with the city being the ideal winter destination. Its cobbled streets, striking architecture and abundance of shops making it the perfect place to tick gifts of the list and soak up the very best of the season at the impressive Christmas market."
