Tourism to Japan in 2019 broke records

Tourism to Japan in 2019 broke records.

A record number of people - 31 million overseas travellers - visited Japan in 2019, with the numbers set to increase even more in 2020 as the country prepares to host the Olympic and Paralympic games in its capital of Tokyo.

It has been revealed that there was a huge 13 per cent increase in the number of people from the United States making it over to Japan in 2019.

And with the new year in mind, the national tourism organisation has launched its 'Your Japan 2020' campaign, which is encouraging people to visit the country with special deals nationwide as well as one of a kind experiences and events.

Some people will even be able to take advantage of the complimentary internal flights offered to encourage people to branch out where they visit during their trip to the country.

Naohito Ise, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization in New York, said: "Japan continues to be a destination of tremendous interest for Americans, and that interest is clearly growing - as evidenced by the fact that we saw a 13% increase in the number of US travellers to Japan in 2019, when compared to the year before. Through the 'Your Japan 2020' campaign, we are encouraging international travellers to visit more off-the-beaten path destinations and partake in truly remarkable experiences all year long. Tourism to Japan has grown significantly year over year, and 2020 is projected to be our best year yet."
