With the romantic holiday having just happened on February 14, it has been revealed that US citizens are looking to their own country to have some time with their loved one.
A study by Allianz Global Assistance has revealed that Valentine's Day travel was up by over one fifth (22 per cent) this year compared to the previous one.
New York City is at the top of people's wish lists for Valentine's Day holidays, with Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Phoenix and Las Vegas completing the top 10.
For those who want to travel abroad, Cancun is increasingly popular, as well as destinations including San Jose Del Cabo, Canada, the Bahamas and Jamaica.
Daniel Durazo, director of marketing and communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA, said: "Our survey shows that this Valentine's Day, home is truly where the heart is. Whether travellers are embracing getaways within the U.S. or yearning for Mexican beaches, the right travel insurance may help with unexpected events which can turn a romantic getaway ice cold."
