Joe Joyce confident for Oleksandr Usyk bout on home soil

Joe Joyce believes that Oleksandr Usyk would fight him in the UK.

The two heavyweight fighters look set to meet in the future with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua occupied with their blockbuster fight and Joyce thinks that the Ukrainian boxer would embrace a clash in Britain - and is looking forward to the atmosphere should the bout take place in front of spectators.

Joyce said: "I know Usyk has a lot of support in the UK and he has never been afraid of travelling. I remember fighting him in the World Boxing Super Series in East London and it felt like I was in the Ukraine. It seems like every Ukrainian based in the UK comes out to support their guy when they compete so, if fans are allowed in by the time we meet, the atmosphere will be great. His fans bring drums, they sing and shout so I am sure he will have no problem fighting here."

Usyk had been eyeing a clash with AJ but the plans have been put on hold by the prospective Fury fight and Joyce believes a contest between the pair is the natural step.

He told The Sun newspaper: "The WBO now has him as number one and me as number two so it is the natural progression that we fight each other. Especially if Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are working on fighting each other, probably a couple of times. The WBO is backing it, they want to make the fight and the fans want to see it happen."
