James Maddison desperate to prove himself to Gareth Southgate

James Maddison is eager to prove his talent to England boss Gareth Southgate.

The Tottenham midfielder has won six caps for the Three Lions but is yet to play a full 90 minutes for his country and is desperate to get a prolonged run in the team as he seeks to make an impact at Euro 2024.

Maddison said: "There is big competition, a lot of quality in the squad. You have to make sure when you are called upon, you have to go and do the business.

"I don’t lack the confidence and belief in myself to do that, but you still have to go and do it, you have to produce. I just want that opportunity, I want that time on the pitch, because I know what I’m capable of."

Maddison is frustrated when he does not get to start games but knows he can handle being on the bench better now that he is older.

When asked for his emotions when sat on the bench, he said: "Grumpy. Very, very, very grumpy is the first thing I’d say.

"But once you accept the fact you’re on the bench. I’m experienced now, I’m 27. On the odd occasion when I was younger, I’d be sulking, I’d be moody, probably not go about it the right way as a teenage James Maddison.

"Now I’m older, I just assess the game and see where I can have an impact."
