Hugo Lloris didn't want to go to another Premier League club

Hugo Lloris would have found it “strange” to play for another Premier League club after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper recently moved Stateside to play for Los Angeles FC after 12 years playing in London, and though Newcastle United were reportedly interested in signing him before he agreed the deal with the MLS club, the Frenchman wasn’t interested.

He told World Soccer magazine: “The Premier League is the best league in the world and I enjoyed my time there.

"Spurs is a unique club so it would have been strange to stay and play for another English team.

“For me, it’s how I feel football, and there were options.”

And Hugo admitted the demands of playing in one of the world’s biggest leagues was starting to take a toll.

He said: “It becomes more difficult year after year at that level.

“For a full season, it demands a lot.

“I can feel it when I get up every morning, that’s the truth.

“You have to try to enjoy the time that you have in the game as much as you can.”

And Hugo loves being in Los Angeles.

He said: “It’s amazing. I love the area because it reminds me a lot of Nice – the ocean, the hills, the mountains.

“The weather is quite different from London too!

“We wanted something new, something for the family to discover a new life.

“I also wanted to keep playing at a good level and LAFC ticked a lot of the boxes.

“I’m looking forward to this new chapter.”
