Mason Mount overjoyed to score first Old Trafford goals for Man Utd

Mason Mount "knew something good was going to come" after scoring his first Old Trafford goals for Manchester United.

The midfielder has struggled with injuries since joining the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2023 but was delighted to hit a brace as United booked their place in the Europa League final with a 4-1 win (7-1 on aggregate) over Athletic Bilbao in Thursday's (08.05.25) semi-final second leg.

Mount told TNT Sports: "It’s been difficult since I’ve been here.

"I’ve had the injuries and the setbacks. I always stayed positive and I knew something good was going to come. I carried on going, and tonight, it’s paid off in the semi-finals.

"It [had been] too long. I carried on going, working hard in training every day and trying to stay positive.

"When I had an opportunity like this to come on in games, just try and make an impact. It paid off. It was a tight game when I came on, and I just came on to try and calm it down and make an impact.

"My first goals here at Old Trafford, ones I’ve been waiting for for a long time. A special moment."

United will now take on Tottenham in an all-English final in Bilbao later this month and manager Ruben Amorim knows that only victory will do for his side as they bid to salvage a wretched season.

He said: "I'm just worried about the next game, trying not to get any injuries for the final. We need to win it. If we don't win it, it means nothing for us. So let's see.

"We have to have a full squad, that is really important. And we need to study the game quite well. And we need to have a little bit of luck. Today we suffered a goal, but we had so many transitions to score a goal and we didn't. We have to be clinical.

"It's a tough moment, one of us is going to win. But it's going to be a big final and we are going to try to win."
