Oscar Beard wants to be one of the best

Oscar Beard hopes to be regarded as one of the world’s best centres.

The Harlequins player has big ambitions for his career and even though he admitted some may be “unrealistic”, he’s got his eye on his goals.

Asked his future goals, he told Rugby World magazine: “If by the end of my career I’ve been capped by England, won multiple Premierships with Harlequins and been one of the best centres in the world, that would be my dream come true.

“It might be unrealistic but it’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

The 23-year-old sportsman may have big goals, but he won’t put too much pressure on himself as he’s keen to just have fun on the pitch.

Discussing the best piece of advice he’s received, he said: “To play with a smile on your face. At the end of the day, it’s just a game.

“When I’m playing at my best, I’m enjoying it and not putting too much pressure on myself, just having a lot of fun with my mates. Which is the exact reason why I started playing in the first place, I guess.

“Ben Tapuai always used to say we’ve got the best job in the world.

“When he got dropped for Andre Esterhuizen for the 2021 Premiership final, he was still saying it. And it’s true. We have.”
