The 35-year-old super middleweight suffered his third-ever career defeat to Bud, 37, in their Las Vegas bout on Saturday (09.13.25), though Canelo has emphasised he has "taken the risks" to achieve the legacy he has.
Speaking after the fight, Canelo said: "I’m here to take risks, that’s what I came here for, my legacy is there and I’ll stay here. I’m happy to share the ring with great fighters like him, I’ve achieved a lot in boxing and I’ve taken the risks.
"I feel good, I feel strong, Crawford was a great fighter, but I feel the same as always. A defeat does not define me, I have already won.
"I’m happy, it was a great night for me, my career will continue, I’m happy for everything that happened tonight."
Canelo – who lost to Crawford by unanimous decision – added he had done everything that he had his team had "planned" during the fight.
He said: "It was a great fight, everyone saw it, I prepared well and we came out winners. The strategy was worked out like that, we did what was planned."
As a result of his victory, Crawford has become the first male boxer in the modern era to hold undisputed titles in three weight divisions, and Canelo believes his opponent "deserves all of the credit" for this remarkable achievement.
He said: "I tried my best tonight and just could not figure out the style. He had everything."
When Canelo was asked how Crawford compared to Floyd 'Money' Mayweather – who he had come to blows with back in 2013 – the boxer argued Bud was the superior fighter.
He said: "I think Crawford is way better than Floyd Mayweather."
Crawford also had some kind words for his opponent, describing Canelo as "an all-time great".
He said: "Like I said before, he's the last one, there's no more Canelos.
"So when you look around, I’m the face of boxing now. I’m the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, like I've always been."
