Notorious, 37, has been out of action from The Octagon since he broke his leg in his fight with Dustin Poirier, 36, in July 2021, though McGregor has now announced he is going to make his mixed martial arts (MMA) comeback next June at the White House to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US.
Speaking with Fox Sports, he said: “It’s a done deal, signed, delivered.
“End of negotiations. McGregor will compete in the White House for America’s 250th birthday.”
UFC boss Dana White had previously teased McGregor could be making his return to the sport for the White House fight, though insisted he wouldn’t be putting together any match-ups until February 2026.
McGregor said of White: “Me and Dana are in constant communications. We’ve done incredible business together. I’m the highest-generating fighter of all time in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
“They’ve just signed a breathtaking deal with Paramount where we’re going to cable TV. $7.7 billion that deal! I’m ready to rock, baby, bring in the big dog, the Mac!”
McGregor said the UFC White House fight was a “six month operation”.
Speaking on a BKFC 82 media roundtable, he said: “Eight months and change out to the White House event. It’s a six month operation.
“You know, I consider it a six month operation to get ready for this belt. And that’s my focus right now. I’m just eager to, you know, climb the steps into being ready for my return.
“There’s a lot at stake, and I’m very excited at the opportunity.”
McGregor said he was “right there” with his cancelled 2024 fight with Michael Chandler, 39, which was scrapped after Notorious sustained an injury in training.
He continued: “I was in incredible condition, incredibly well prepared, and just a slight lapse in concentration left with injury. I wish to correct that and show what I’m about. And that’s it.
“I’m eager to get back, and we’ll see what the future holds after that.”
