‘Life goes on’: Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi reflects on failed move to Liverpool

Marc Guehi has reflected on his failed move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool, saying “life goes on”.

The 25-year-old England defender looked set to leave The Eagles for Anfield over the summer, but the deal broke down just before the transfer window ended, and Guehi has now looked back on the failed deal.

Speaking with TNT Sports, he said: “The sun goes up, the sun goes down, life goes on.

“That's my mindset, and if you adopt that mindset in most things, you just get on with life and move on.

“Fortunately for me, I'm at a football club that has helped me and given me so much, so it does make it that much easier.”

Guehi emphasised it wasn’t all bad after the move fell through.

He said: “Having my family there the whole time, friends, people who have always been there for me, and then the football club. People that you come into work with every single day, staff, teammates, [are] always there.

“So when they're joking and laughing and smiling, it just makes it easy to be honest. It's been really good in that sense.”

Guehi’s move to Liverpool was blocked by manager Oliver Glasner, 51, who didn’t want to lose the captain without securing a proper replacement for the FA Cup holders.

Glasner later said it was “very significnt” for Guehi to stay at Crystal Palace.

He said: “He's our captain, in the defence he's the most experienced Premier League player with, I think, 150 [138] Premier League games and still a young player, Marc, 24, 25 years of age. That's why it was very important for us.

“You can see it, we lost Eberechi Eze who was a big player that scored so many important goals for us, but we lost just one of the 15, 16 players who play the most minutes. All of the others, we're now together for over a year.

“The players know what to do on the pitch, know each other, they know the strengths and the weaknesses, they know how the players are moving and this helps. That's why I think the start was easier compared to last season.”
