Big Bang, 42, has accepted terms in principle to face Del Boy, 41, which is expected to take place on December 13.
The bout will be billed as Chisora’s 50th and final career fight, and Zhang hopes to receive a decision later this week.
Zhang’s advisor Terry Lane revealed he had been contacted by Chisora’s promoter Queensbury about the fight.
He told Boxing Scene: “We’ve been very quiet about it because our team and Zhang himself, we’re just not ones to rush to social media.
“But we were presented with the fight [three weeks ago] and we accepted in a couple of days.
“So it’s been well over three weeks since the fight has been accepted on our end, in principle.”
Chisoria had shared a list of boxers he wanted to share the ring with, but Lane insisted Zhang was the opponent he wanted.
The advisor said: “I know that two of those opponents are not going to work out. I’ve been wrong before, so I can’t say anything in boxing. You can’t say anything with certainty, but I just don’t think two of those fights are in the running.
“What I’m hearing on my end is that the powers that be want to make Zhang versus Chisora. So it’s kind of up to Chisora to say yes or no to it.
“But if he says no, I don't know what direction they would go in, but we would move on and probably focus back on [fighting in] China again [in January].”
Chisora recently shared three other opponents he would want to face, those being Deontay Wilder, 39, Jarrell Miller, 37, and Dillian Whyte, also 37 - who he was defeated by in their previous two fights.
Announcing his final fight on Instagram, Chisora said: “Let me tell you something, we are going back to Manchester on December 13, shutdown.
“Book your hotels, book your restaurants, me and Queensberry are coming to shut it down in Manchester on the 13th of December.
“The opponent will be announced soon. I had one, but the big boss took him.
“I’m currently arguing with the big boss about what he wants. But the road to 50 in Manchester. The last dance is happening in Manchester. War!”
Meanwhile, Zhang has said he would be open to facing Moses Itauma, 20, if the Chisora fight doesn't happen.
He told Box Nation: “Moses Itauma is a great fighter. I watched a couple of his fights, and he knocked out Dillian Whyte in one round. He was fantastic.
“But for the time being, right now, we haven’t received anything from Itauma in terms of fighting him.”
When Big Bang was asked if he was ready to take on The Wrecking Ball, he said: “Anyone who wants to fight me. I want to see that contract. I will sign it.
