Marcus Rashford ‘to stay at Barcelona after impressing Hansi Flick’

Marcus Rashford is reportedly likely to remain at Barcelona beyond the end of his loan spell after impressing head coach Hansi Flick with his performances this season.

The 28-year-old forward joined the Spanish champions on a season-long loan from Manchester

United in July 2025, with Barca holding a €30million option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona are interested in keeping Rashford beyond the end of his season-long loan.

The England international has featured regularly under Flick, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions as Barcelona sit four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.

His form has strengthened internal discussions at the club about activating the buy option next summer.

Rashford has previously spoken about how the move has helped him develop as a player.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Barcelona’s 2-1 Champions League win over Newcastle, he said he wanted to stay at the club for “as many [seasons] as possible”.

He added: “We will see. I have to focus on trying to do my job and trying to help the team in whichever way I can.

I’m learning a lot, it’s a new style of football. But it’s making me a better player. Honestly, it’s an amazing experience. I’ve always been a huge admirer of Barcelona, every player my age has watched them play.”

Rashford has also highlighted Flick’s influence since his arrival, describing a strong relationship with the former Bayern Munich coach.

He said: “He’s very important. I feel the confidence he’s given me. I knew he was a top manager before I arrived here, but to work with him is a pleasure.”

By contrast, Rashford’s Manchester United future remains uncertain.

He fell out of favour under former head coach Ruben Amorim and has not played for The Red Devils since December 2024, having previously spent a loan spell at Aston Villa.

Amorim’s dismissal earlier this month has not altered United’s stance, with the club still seeking greater consistency and application from one of their highest earners.
