Thomas Tuchel recalls Manchester United duo in latest England squad

Thomas Tuchel has recalled Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire to the England squad while Trent Alexander-Arnold misses out.

The England manager has named a 35-man squad for the upcoming games against Uruguay on March 27 and Japan on March 31, and he's picked a larger group of players to "open up the picture" and increase competition for places.

He said: "We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost, so we bring players in that we haven't seen, who haven't played so much to open up the picture, and the competition for plane tickets to the US.

"Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp - ten or eleven players who get a rest before and we will then go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan."

As well as Manchester United duo Mainoo and Maguire, Newcastle United's Lewis Hall has earned a recall.

His Magpies teammates Aaron Ramsdale, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento are also involved this time after missing out on Tuchel's last England squad.

Others included this month who were omitted last time are Jason Steele (Brighton and Hove Albion), Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan), James Garner (Everton), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United), Noni Madueke (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea) and Dominic Solanke (Tottenham Hotspur).

Real Madrid defender Alexander-Arnold has been snubbed despite being a regular starter for his team.

From Tuchel's November squad, Chelsea duo Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James have been dropped, along with AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.

England have picked five goalkeepers in the squad, including Brighton's uncapped shot-stopper Jason Steele, who is intended to be included as a training goalkeeper for the 2026 World Cup.
