The teenage ace recently changed his Instagram profile picture to the NBA legend and explained that he has been inspired by James leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 4-3 victory over the Golden State Warriors during the 2016 NBA Finals, having trailed 3-1.
Yamal told reporters: "LeBron is one of the references that is inspiring me for the game.
"I put it as my photo for that reason. I am thinking about how he did it [in 2016] and hoping for the same result for us."
The 18-year-old forward will spearhead Barca's attempt to overturn a 2-0 deficit against their La Liga rivals in Tuesday's (14.04.26) quarter-final second leg and insists that he is not phased by the expectation despite his tender age.
Yamal said: "Since I was a kid, I have taken on a lot of responsibility, so I am used to it.
"I don't see it as a problem. It's a virtue. I enjoy going out with my teammates and luckily I play for Barcelona, so we have world class players - veterans and youngsters - across the side.
"So it's not just to do with me. But if that is the case, I don't mind [being the leader], but it's about the team. And I have full confidence in the team."
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is confident that his side can get the result they need to progress to the last four but is aware they have a "tough" task on their hands at Atleti's Metropolitano Stadium.
The German coach said: "It's tough for us, but I believe in my team, that we can make it happen.
"It's possible. Why not? I know we play a strong team with fantastic players, so we need a strong and stable defence, but we have to be brave in offence: attack, press."
