Pep Guardiola backs Man City to handle pressure of Premier League title race

Pep Guardiola is confident that Manchester City can cope with the pressure of the Premier League title race.

City battled to a 1-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday (22.04.26) that saw them move ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table on goals scored and the coach believes his squad have the mental fortitude to come out on top in their duel with the Gunners.

Guardiola told reporters: "I don't have a machine or something like that. How was your pressure today? How do you feel? Were you nervous or not nervous?

"I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that this, for the future, for all of them, for all of us, in this club will be good, as much you experience, as much as you've been there many times, you handle it better.

"But in general, in the way we play it was really, really, really good. So, the commitment, the way, how many plays arrive, and we just missed a little bit that moment."

Erling Haaland's early goal was enough to give City victory and Guardiola was pleased with his team's efforts, even though they were unable to bolster their goal difference.

The manager said: "I think we played really, really good. I didn't see all the images and the chances that we had, but I had a feeling that we had a lot.

"And just for many of these types of games, we score the second on the third, for the chances that we create, we deserve it."

Guardiola was satisfied with the efforts of his players just three days on from their vital victory against Arsenal.

He said: "It was such a demanding game (at the weekend). It is not easy after three days, but in the Premier League you have to adjust.

"Winning is the main target and, considering the last three days and the emotion and physicality in the game we played, we made an extraordinary game."
