Zoe Harrison improved rugby kicking skills by playing against her brothers

Zoe Harrison believes that competition with her brothers helped hone her kicking skills.

The England fly-half is on an excellent kicking streak for the Red Roses and thinks that it stems from trying to kick against her siblings when she was growing up.

Harrison told The Telegraph: "I don't want to start comparing the men's and women's games.

"I hate it. Just because you get people coming in with, 'Well, we did this blah, blah, blah.' But, yes, kicking is exactly the same.

"I have two brothers and everything was so competitive. One of them would kick from the touchline because there was an element of him wanting to show off. 'Alright, I'll do it, too, then.' He would always go and kick from halfway; obviously, I cannot do that so I'd go from 40 metres out. That probably has built me, chasing men who are stronger."

Despite her dislike at comparisons between men's and women's rugby, Harrison was flattered to be mentioned in the same breath as France international Thomas Ramos recently.

The Saracens star said: "I did enjoy being compared to Thomas Ramos recently. With the boot, he doesn't miss, so being compared to someone like that... I know (he broke English hearts during the Six Nations) but it was quite funny how he smiled while doing it. I have to say, I did enjoy that.

"Someone like Ramos, you just think, 'He does not miss.' To be associated with that... imagine being that person, when you are teeing the ball up? He smiled because he knew he was going to get it and he knew that England would lose the game by conceding that penalty."

Harrison sees her kicking skills as an ideal opportunity to help her team come out on top.

The 2025 World Cup winner said: "I want to get the extra points for the team. It's not anything personal. I want to be the best in the world at what I do so it does come under that, and that's why I try hard, but you also want to get the points so your team wins."
