Cole Palmer 'not crying' about England World Cup snub

Cole Palmer is "not crying" about missing out on England's World Cup squad.

The Chelsea star was a surprise omission from Thomas Tuchel's travelling party to the tournament following an injury-hit campaign but won't let the setback disappoint him too much.

Palmer told i-D: "This season hasn’t been the best, but it is what it is. I’m not crying over a decision you can’t change, and I hope the lads make it all the way.

"I don’t get too down. I just talk to my friends outside of football. They’re normal people, so it helps me feel normal, feel grounded."

Palmer explained that he is looking to "relax" this summer without football taking up his time and revealed that he will be watching England's games if he is "not doing anything".

The Chelsea attacker said: "I’m going to relax this summer, rest for the first time in three or four years, before getting back to what I love.

"If I’m not doing anything, then I’ll watch the matches, yeah."

Palmer's profile has soared since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 but the star does his best to stay level-headed.

He said: "Football is just a game of finding the moments. You can do something one game and not the next, and they’ll be on you. That’s how it works. I just try to not pay attention to the outside noise and just do what I do.

"I just think it’s funny because people always say to me, ‘He’s so funny, he’s so this.' But it’s just normal; I’m just doing normal things."

Tuchel previously explained that he opted not to select Palmer as the player was "not very influential" for club or country last season.

The England boss said: "I think he suffers from a lack of individual form within the club.

"He was not as decisive or as influential as he was in the last seasons, throughout the whole season. Second of all, he was not very influential with us. His record with us was just not outstanding, not good enough to make him, ‘No matter what, he is coming.'

"That is just the reality of it. He had to pull out injured several times, when he was in camp he did not have the impact that we all wanted to push him for."
