Tom Holland humbled by Erling Haaland snub

Tom Holland humbled by Erling Haaland snub

Tom Holland was "humbled" when Erling Haaland ignored his message to hang out.

The Odyssey star had got in touch with the Norweigian soccer star to see if he wanted to hang out during the World Cup but he didn't even get a response to his social media DM.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host read out a post he'd seen on X which read: “Erling Haaland had no idea who Tom Holland was when he DM’d him and asked to hang out.

“He doesn’t watch movies, so he thought he was a random person.’ Now, tell us the truth: did you DM Erling Haaland?” h

Tom sheepishly replied: “Yes. Yes, and I tell you what, that is, that is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors. You know, you’ll be like, ‘I’ll text him, I’ll take him to dinner,’ not even a response, not an excuse, not ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football,’ nada.”

The Spider-Man star contacted the Manchester City ace after seeing him at the Monaco Grand Prix at the beginning of June.

He said: “I was watching Lewis [Hamilton] race, and I saw him. He was [in] like a hospitality suite across from me, and I just thought I’d shoot my shot. Send him a text.

“I never imagined I would talk about it on live television, but here we are.”

Tom would still like to hang out with the sportsman, but is unsure how Erling would feel about socialising with him after England beat Norway 2-1 in the World Cup quarter finals over the weekend.

He said: “I don’t think he would have dinner with me after the other day."

Jimmy said: “Oh really? Yeah, he’s probably hurting a little bit."

Tom joked: “A little bit, bless him.”

But the snub hasn't put Tom off admiring Erling as a player, describing him as "incredible".

He added: "I mean, he’s an absolute legend.”

England will face Argentina in the semi-finals of the tournament on Wednesday (15.07.26), and the Uncharted actor is feeling optimistic.

He said: “It feels like something is in the air right now. Sometimes in life, I just get a feeling, and I have that feeling right now, Jimmy."
