Hornets in 'pole' for Andre Carrillo loan deal

Hornets in 'pole' for Andre Carrillo loan deal

Watford are reportedly in 'pole position' to sign Benfica's Peruvian international winger Andre Carrillo on loan.

Reports in Portugal claim a loan deal is on the table for the 26-year-old, who has not made the squad for Benfica's first two matches of the current campaign.

Carrillo moved from Sporting to Benfica last summer but has since been largely restricted to the bench and made only three starts in the Primiera Liga last term, scoring twice.

Former Arsenal youth player Chris Willock is now understood to be ahead of Carrillo in the pecking order and an exit from the club seems to be on the cards.

A number of English clubs have been linked with Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Newcastle among them, but the presence of Watford boss Marco Silva - who knows the player from his time in Portugal - is said to be a factor in where Carrillo will end up later in this transfer window.
