Jerome Kaino to work on tackling technique

New Zealand flanker Jerome Kaino has revealed he is altering his tackling technique in the hope of avoiding more yellow cards.

The veteran has picked up two costly yellow cards in recent weeks, being sin-binned during the third Test against the British & Irish Lions, while he was also temporarily removed while playing for the Blues against the Sunwolves.

With both punishments heavily affecting the outcome of the games, Kaino has revealed that ahead of the Rugby Championships, he is looking to improve his technique in a bid to ensure he stops finding himself on the wrong side of the law.

"I definitely have to address it," he told the NZ Herald. "I have to try to adapt to how the games are being officiated now. We could throw our hands up and say they are marginal calls but it's the way the game is going now and anything close to the head is going to be ruled on.

"That's where I have to evolve and change my tackling technique. We're well under way with that. I've been trying to lower my tackle focus."
