Danny Wilson won't rush Warburton back

Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson says Lions skipper Sam Warburton will not be rushed back into action before he is ready.

Warburton has been struggling with an ankle injury in the wake of leading the British & Irish Lions to a memorable series draw against New Zealand this summer.

He has now returned to initial training but Wilson says he must be given time to work his way back to full fitness.

Wilson said on the WRU website: "He will be back three or four games into the season. He was back in training on Monday and we have to make sure we bring him back in slowly but surely, and not rush things.

"The big picture is him recovering from the Lions and getting ready for the autumn internationals."

Cardiff lost their first game of the new Guinness PRO14 campaign against Edinburgh Rugby and were then also handed an injury setback after it was announced earlier this week that Ellis Jenkins would be out of action for at least two months with a hamstring injury.
