Pep hails hat-trick hero

Pep Guardiola paid tribute to Sergio Aguero as his hat-trick helped Manchester City to a 6-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

Aguero spearheaded the victory, laying on a goal for Gabriel Jesus and inching ever closer to City's all-time goalscoring record.

Kevin De Bruyne conjured two assists from his limitless stock of tricks, while Nicolas Otamendi's header and Raheem Sterling's penalty completed City's muscle-flexing rout.

Prolific Argentinian Aguero took his City tally to 175 goals, now just three shy of breaking Eric Brook's club record of 177 that has stood since 1939.

"Hopefully that (club record) will happen very soon, and hopefully we can have a big celebration," Guardiola said. "Hopefully the club can do that (celebrate) one day soon in the stadium at the game. He's a legend, and it's a part of history in the club."

Guardiola challenged Aguero to work harder last season, and it is clearly paying off.

"Listen, I always think he works hard," he added. "But he's a guy I encourage to play, not just to score goals. I don't want just two or three players defending or trying to score goals, I want everyone defending and everyone attacking. I want to see every player move towards the ball, especially the strikers."
