Albion were on the verge of a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Toffees at the Amex after Anthony Knockaert's late goal looked to be sending them on their way to three points.
However, Wayne Rooney's injury-time penalty earned the visitors a draw - much to Ryan's frustration.
"It's a missed opportunity, and from my experience so far, you need to be picking up as many points as you can, especially here at home," he told the club's website.
"It's important to make your home a fortress, and we've done that, other than the City game at the start of the season, but we'll look back on this game and think of two points lost.
"We take a lot of positives from the game also, but to take the lead and throw it away at the end is obviously disappointing."
Albion are back in action soon when they go to West Ham on Friday evening and Australia international Ryan says they must quickly forget about the draw on Sunday.
He added: "We've got to move on, regroup and recuperate with the quick turnaround before Friday's game."
