Inter confident of Icardi stay

Inter Milan expect captain Mauro Icardi to remain with the club and they are confident he will sign a new deal soon.

The Argentina international played a starring role as the Nerazzurri secured a return to the Champions League last season, with his tally of 29 Serie A goals was only matched by Lazio's Ciro Immobile.

The 25-year-old was surprisingly omitted from Argentina's squad for this summer's World Cup, but that has not stopped suitors expressing an interest in his services, with reports suggesting Juventus are considering a bid.

Inter are confident of keeping hold of Icardi, however, and chief executive Alessandro Antonello has confirmed they are yet to receive an offer for the forward as contract talks continue.

Antonello told Rai Gr Parlamento: "Icardi is the captain of Inter and there's a contract in place. There's a willingness on both sides to discuss a renewal, we'll meet in the next few weeks to go down that road and hope for the satisfaction of both parties.

"Offers? So far none have arrived."

Icardi has spent the last five years with Inter and his current contract at the San Siro still has another three years to run.
