Reds level-headed - Van Dijk

Defender Virgil van Dijk insists Liverpool will take the season game by game and not get caught up in the hype surrounding them.

The Reds began their Premier League campaign with a comfortable 4-0 victory over West Ham and have been installed among the favorites to lift the trophy in May.

Champions Manchester City are strong favorites to retain their crown but it is the Merseysiders who have been tipped to be their closest challengers.

Having guided his side to the Champions League final last term, manager Jurgen Klopp spent big over the summer, prompting many to believe that this will be the season when the club that dominated English football in the 1970s and 80s returns to the summit.

It remains to be seen if they can fulfil their promise but van Dijk has made it clear that the players are not looking beyond their next fixture.

"We've seen the media writing about us as the new champions and stuff but we don't really look at those things," he said. "We need to just focus game by game.

'We want to do well. We want to achieve greater things so we need to be ready for any challenge, any battle that comes to us."

Punters looking to use a free bet might fancy Liverpool to win the title and they are next in league action at Crystal Palace on Monday, August 20.
