The Manchester United chief is still frustrated at the club's summer failure to recruit his requested transfer targets, most notably Leicester City and England defender Harry Maguire.
The Foxes man signed a new deal at the King Power stadium this week, with United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward refusing to go anywhere near his £75m valuation.
Reports have continued to surface that Mourinho and Woodward are on an inevitable collision course, certainly if results on the field do not improve quickly.
The Red Devils, however, have continued to insist to their manager he has around £60m burning a hole in his pocket when the window reopens in the new year.
And club insiders state they are already working hard behind the scenes to identify new targets which can placate Mourinho and bolster the squad further.
The former Chelsea boss has been allowed to spend around £400m since he took over from Louis van Gaal in 2016, which has certainly grated with some of the money men at the Theatre of Dreams, especially when they hear Mourinho ruling out a serious title challenge this season.
