Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition shadow-dropped on Nintendo Switch

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition shadow-dropped on Nintendo Switch

Lara Croft has made a surprise return to Nintendo platforms, with Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition launching on both the Switch and Switch 2.

The shadow drop, announced by Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics, marks the first time the acclaimed 2013 reboot has been playable on Nintendo hardware - and it arrives as a complete package.

Available now via the Nintendo eShop for £17/$20, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition includes the base game, all previously released DLC, and a suite of digital extras, like Dark Horse’s Tomb Raider: The Beginning comic, Brady Games’ Art of Survival mini-book, and the Final Hours of Tomb Raider developer documentary series.

The release also supports online multiplayer for up to eight players.

Those who already own Aspyr’s Tomb Raider 1–3 Remastered or Tomb Raider 4–6 Remastered collections on Switch can claim a 10 per cent loyalty discount.

The 2013 reboot marked a defining moment for the franchise, reframing Lara as a vulnerable but determined survivor - a shift shaped heavily by lead writer Rhianna Pratchett.

In a previous interview, Pratchett recalled that even her original “audition” scene, in which Lara tells Roth she’s not sure she’s “that kind of Croft,” made it into the final game and later the 2018 film adaptation.

The reboot ushered in a more grounded, character-driven interpretation of Lara, far removed from the hyper-stylised marketing of the classic era.

With Tomb Raider celebrating renewed momentum - including Amazon’s upcoming TR universe and a new game in development at Crystal Dynamics - the Switch shadow-drop offers fans a chance to revisit the story that redefined one of gaming’s most iconic heroes.
