Star Wars: Galactic Racer officially announced by Lucasfilm Games

Star Wars: Galactic Racer officially announced by Lucasfilm Games

Lucasfilm Games has officially unveiled Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a new high-speed racing game developed by Fuse Games and revealed at The Game Awards 2025.

The announcement marks Star Wars’ return to the racing genre, drawing clear inspiration from classics like Star Wars: Episode I: Racer while aiming to modernise the formula.

Set across a range of planets from the Star Wars galaxy, Galactic Racer blends cinematic spectacle with competitive racing and a narrative-driven single-player campaign.

The debut trailer highlights Jakku’s Graveyard of Giants as one of the game’s headline tracks, transforming the desert wasteland of wrecked Star Destroyers and AT-ATs into an unsanctioned racing circuit.

Other locations teased include Ando Prime and the newly revealed Sentinel One, a hazardous industrial world filled with toxic rivers and environmental dangers that directly affect vehicle handling and race strategy.

Players take on the role of a new character named Shade, described by developer Fuse Games as a lone racer seeking both glory and revenge.

Progression is structured around a campaign that mixes traditional races with “runs-based” decision-making, allowing players to choose events, vehicles and upgrade paths that shape their journey toward becoming an elite pilot.

Multiplayer modes will sit alongside the campaign, supporting high-stakes competitive play.

Vehicle variety is a core focus, with the game featuring multiple classes of repulsorcraft, including speederbikes, landspeeders and a new skim speeder type designed around fluid racing lines and momentum-based handling.

Different vehicle classes can race together in the same events, creating dynamic interactions and unpredictable outcomes on the track.

Fuse brings significant pedigree to the project, with leadership drawn from studios behind Need for Speed, Burnout and Star Wars: Battlefront II’s Starfighter Assault mode.

Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly said in a statement: “Lucasfilm Games has a long and successful relationship with many of the key leaders at Fuse Games from their time at Criterion, including their work on Star Wars Battlefront II Starfighter Mode.

“In addition to the great work on our projects, they have been industry leaders in some of the most beloved racing franchises in Need for Speed and Burnout.

“I can't think of any other studio better suited to bring Star Wars racing back to our fans.”

While no release date has been confirmed, Lucasfilm Games has confirmed Star Wars: Galactic Racer will launch sometime in 2026.

With familiar faces like Sebulba teased alongside new characters and worlds, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is positioning itself as a fresh but respectful evolution of the franchise’s racing legacy.
