The e-commerce company have unveiled their first Kindle that can be immersed in freshwater for up to an hour and still work perfectly. It is also able to withstand splashes in locations such as the bathroom, the pool or the beach.
Amazon wrote on their website: "No more soggy pages with the all-new Kindle Oasis - it's IPX8 rated to protect against immersion in up to two meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. And it's built to withstand getting splashed at the beach or dropped in the bathtub, hot tub, or pool.
"We designed your Kindle Oasis to be waterproof. It meets the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standard 60529 rating of IPX8 and can withstand immersion in up to 2 meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. In addition, we've tested your Kindle to withstand exposure to water in many popular places to read. If your Kindle gets accidentally dropped in a bath tub, hot tub, the pool, splashed by the ocean at the beach, or otherwise exposed to water, quickly retrieve it."
The Kindle Oasis also has a couple of cover options - a premium leather one and a water-safe fabric cover.
They added: "Complete your Kindle Oasis experience with a protective premium leather or water-safe fabric cover. The slim, form-fitting cover opens like a book and is designed to closely wrap the bezel like a glove. Snapping securely in place magnetically, automatically wake your Kindle or put it to sleep by simply opening or closing ... Place your Kindle Oasis in portrait orientation mode, and use the cover to enjoy your books hands-free. Whether you are reading on an airplane, at a café or in your home."
