Marella Cruises to make Discovery 2 a permanent adults-only ship for winter 2027

Marella Cruises is expanding its adults-only offering after confirming Marella Discovery 2 will become a permanent adults-only ship.

The TUI-owned cruise line announced it will invest in four brand-new onboard concepts designed exclusively for adults, replacing the ship's former children's facilities as demand for adults-only cruising continues to grow..

The changes will see a speakeasy-style bar, an escape room, a karaoke venue and a dedicated arts and crafts space introduced on board ahead of the winter 2027 season.

Marella Discovery 2 will homeport from three destinations during the season, sailing from Tenerife and Gran Canaria between November 2027 and March 2028 before relocating to Malaga from March until April 2028.

The announcement forms part of Marella Cruises' wider winter programme, which will see all five ships in the fleet sailing from six homeports across Europe and the Caribbean. The full programme goes on sale from July 2, 2026.

Marella Discovery will begin the season in La Romana, Dominican Republic, from November 2027 until March 2028 before repositioning to Palma, Majorca, for the remainder of the winter.

Meanwhile, Marella Explorer will alternate sailings from Tenerife and Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, offering a range of Canary Islands itineraries throughout the season.

The cruise line's other adults-only vessel, Marella Explorer 2, will continue sailing Caribbean itineraries alongside Marella Voyager, with both ships based in Barbados.

Among the highlights of the new programme is a brand-new seven-night 'Atlantic Fusion' itinerary aboard Marella Discovery 2.

The cruise marks the return of Agadir, Morocco, to the line's itineraries and includes calls at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura, Arrecife in Lanzarote and Santa Cruz on La Palma, alongside a day at sea before returning to Las Palmas.

Marella Cruises is also introducing a selection of five to eight-night repositioning cruises.

One of the new sailings, 'Canarian Collection 2', departs Malaga before calling at Gibraltar, Funchal in Madeira for an overnight stay, Santa Cruz on La Palma, Arrecife, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Longer voyages will also feature in the programme, including 13 and 14-night transatlantic sailings.

The 'Voyage to the Tropics' itinerary aboard Marella Discovery departs Malaga before visiting Gibraltar and spending eight days at sea ahead of calls in Antigua, St Kitts, St Maarten, the British Virgin Islands and La Romana in the Dominican Republic.

The cruise line is also expanding its Cruise Stay programme, adding 39 new hotels across Malaga, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Romana, Barbados and Palma.

The expansion increases the total number of hotels available to Cruise Stay customers to 197, with holidays available from 12 TUI Airways regional airports across the UK.

Festive sailings also feature in the programme, including an overnight stay in Funchal, Madeira, aboard Marella Explorer during its 'A Canarian Christmas' itinerary, departing on December 23, 2027.

Marella is also extending its Suite Service Max package across the fleet, with the enhanced offering available in all Royal Suites, Voyager Suites and Executive Suites. The package includes upgraded in-suite comforts, exclusive dining privileges and additional premium experiences.

Chris Hackney, CEO of Marella Cruises, said: "Our winter 2027 programme will focus on the regeneration of Marella Discovery 2 returning as an adults-only ship for a second consecutive winter season. With demand for adults-only cruising continuing to grow, we're investing in four new onboard concepts to enhance the experience even further.

"With brand-new itineraries, festive overnight stays, repositioning cruises, transatlantic cruises and an expansion of 39 hotels for our Cruise and Stay offering, we're continuing to evolve our holidays to give customers more ways to cruise with Marella Cruises."

Marella Cruises continues to offer all-inclusive holidays as standard, with tips and service charges included in the fare.

Prices for the winter 2027 programme start from £1,817 per person for the 'Caribbean Charms' itinerary, with bookings opening on July 2, 2026.
