Research by Kaspersky Lab has found that travellers are more keen to use their internet when they are abroad rather than in everyday life.
And 85 per cent of people admit they would feel nervous if they lost their internet connection whilst on holiday with 38 per cent concerned for their safety.
Dmitry Aleshin of Kaspersky Lab said: "It is not always a bad thing to trust your internet connection while traveling as finding a good restaurant, your hotel and even directions are available via a simple internet connection. However, if people are feeling so dependent on the internet, they should take necessary precautions before leaving their countries."
Whilst David Emm, Principal Security Researcher at Kaspersky Lab, added: "In an age where we need to be connected in order to go about our day-to-day activities, we need to be more careful with our phones and tablets to avoid being stuck without our beloved devices. Whether or not we should be reliant on connectivity and our phones is up for debate - but there's no denying that the internet helps us navigate our way around when we're travelling, and find the best places to eat, drink and stay. However, if we are fully dependent on our mobile devices, we must be careful to avoid jeopardising our safety by losing that connectivity when we're in an unfamiliar place!"
