Thomas Tuchel wants Antonio Rudiger to stay at Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel hopes that Antonio Rudiger stays at Chelsea.

The German defender has been a key figure at the Blues since Tuchel arrived at the club in January but has linked with a move away as discussions continue about a new contract, although the coach is sure that the defender will not be distracted.

Tuchel said: "It does not affect this mentality, it does not affect his quality and it does absolutely not affect his behaviour. He is fully committed to Chelsea right now.

"I am absolutely sure he feels the trust and respect and the love from the club and from the spectators.

"He is a big competitor and he is in exactly the right spot. He is in the most competitive league, he is at a club where he really matters and that suits him perfectly, so let's be patient and hopefully we have a good ending."

The coach added: "Toni knows his role and he accepts his role and lives it to the absolute maximum.

"We demand a lot and he delivers a lot. I think a good relationship always helps me as a coach and helps every player. We want to install this and keep this. At the moment this is what we have and now it is Toni and my duty to keep this going."

Rudiger has been linked with a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but recently insisted that his focus is on Chelsea.

The defender said: "Of course, I'm honoured by [Bayern's interest] and it proves that I've been doing things right.

"But I won't let myself become distracted.

"I have an obligation to my club to perform well. I have to prove myself in every game and not let myself be distracted by rumours.

"I feel good at Chelsea where I am now, so that suits me."
