Cristiano Ronaldo is committed to Manchester United, says Erik ten Hag

Cristiano Ronaldo is "totally committed" to Manchester United, according to Erik ten Hag.

The record-breaking forward scored his first goal of the season in United's 2-0 win against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League, and the United boss subsequently insisted that his star player is committed to the Old Trafford club, despite being linked with a move away throughout the summer transfer window.

The coach said: "I think he’s totally committed to this project and totally committed to this team. Totally involved. You see also connections coming around him and he is constructing connections, so I am happy with that.”

Ronaldo missed United's pre-season tour in Asia and Australia.

And Ten Had hasn't been surprised by his slow start to the current campaign, as he's still working his way towards full fitness.

He said: "We could expect this, when you miss pre-season.

"So he has to work really hard and invest to get the right fitness and then he will score more goals. You can see he is really close. When he gets fitter, he will finish them."

Jadon Sancho scored United's first goal in their Europa League win.

The England international was pleased with the result, especially after their 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in their opening group game.

Sancho - who is hoping to secure a spot in England's World Cup squad - told MUTV: "Starting the campaign with a defeat was an upsetting result, so we knew that today was a must-win.

"I am very delighted [with the goal]. Again, the most important thing was the three points and I will have to keep working hard for the team."
