'Unaccapteable': Erik ten Hag unimpressed by Manchester United dropping points in stoppage time

Erik ten Hag has branded Manchester United's last-minute defeat to Chelsea "unacceptable".

The side were 3-2 ahead with 99 minutes 17 seconds on the clock before conceding two goals from Cole Palmer in the 100th and 101st minutes, just days after Brentford scored against them in stoppage time to claim a 1-1 draw, and the Dutch boss has warned his team need to have higher standards if they want to compete against the best clubs in the world.

He told BBC Sport: "In five days we dropped five points. That is unacceptable. We should have a high standard if we want to compete for Champions League football.

"I don't know (if the top four is gone). I have to see again the ranking. Points will be more expensive. It's very disappointing we're doing this and making the wrong decisions. We gave away a game we should have won.

"As a team we should deal with this."

However, Erik noted the Red Devils - who are in sixth place in the Premier League - had "dominated" for most of the game and he felt the final 4-3 scoreline didn't reflect on their overall performance, blaming the defeat on "individual errors".

He said: "It was for the neutral an amazing game. A fantastic football game with a lot of quality.

"Manchester United dominated the game but we made individual errors that cost us the game.

"We have to learn from it. When you are a Man Utd player you should already know how to deal with this circumstance.

"I enjoyed how my team were playing, it was fantastic. We dominated the ball, we dominated the opponent."
